Staff Training and Capacity Building at Rising Sun Institute

Disability is an important medical, educational and socio-economical issue worldwide. According to WHO statistics 10% of population suffer from one or other disability. Some people suffer from multiple disabilities. UNICEF and UNESCO figures for developing countries are around 15-17%. When we study the situation of disability at city of Lahore and Pakistan the situation seem to be alarming. The most vulnerable population is the children of school going age i.e. 4-15 year of age (about 30%)

Less than 4% children with disabilities are attending special schools and 96% have no schooling due to non-availability of the facilities.
It’s therefore vital that the rights of these people be realized which is a collective responsibility of the society to uphold their political, social and economic rights.
Rising Sun presents a dynamic example of women economic empowerment by appointing 95% of female teaching and vocational training staff, psychologist and sports, music and Arts teachers. The Rising Sun Institute also has got the expertise and capability in conducting teachers training programs for regular schools in special need and Inclusive Education. The Society has conducted 15 courses, mainly for the teachers The Citizen Foundation and other schools of Azad Kashmir, NWFP and Baluchistan has trained 440 teachers during these courses. Rising Sun is the only Institute providing such training to the teachers from regular schools enabling them to work under Inclusive Education System.
